Official Synopsis:

There are only three things that matter to twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him. But it’s been almost three years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’s about to embark on one to find the other.
But bringing Father home is no small matter. In order to find him she’ll have to travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. Her only companion is a boy named Oliver whose own magical ability is based in lies and deceit–and with a liar by her side in a land where nothing is as it seems, it will take all of Alice’s wits (and every limb she’s got) to find Father and return home to Ferenwood in one piece. On her quest to find Father, Alice must first find herself–and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of loss.

My Review:

First of all, the coverart is absolutely STUNNING. It represents the whole book so well, all the colours and just… I am in love with this cover. I am also in love with this book. I don’t even know where to begin. I was captured from the first sentence. The whole book was so magical right from page one and the writing style fits so perfectly to the setting, the world building, the characters. All the love for little details, showing characters’ little quirks. The characters are so well and beautifully written. The main character, Alice, is different from everyone else and while she thinks that it is a bad thing and wants to be like evryone else, her character grows and develops so much within the story, that she comes to understand it isn’t bad at all. She embraces herself and her magic. She is so strong and clever and brave. People too often say that children are too small to be that smart and wise, but Alice proves them all wrong. And I love how in this book, the characters all have flaws, but they are loved nontheless, they make friends. So much is about love between family members and between friends. Friendship plays such a big role and while reading I realized that it is one of the essential themes in this story. I also loved the plot. The whole adventure was great.
There’s nothing I don’t love about this book. There is a good plot, great characters with great development. Amazing writing style. Realistic friendship and family situations. Just very much love for this book.
