“Traveling through the worlds gives you perspective. It makes you value what you have.”

Goodreads Synopsis:

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents’ invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse—even hurting the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions.
Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul. The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared.

My review:

Ten thousand Skies above you already has an intense beginning, due to Marguerite being forced to cooperate with her enemies, the Triad company. Because they splintered her boyfriend Paul’s soul and to retrieve every part she needs to do Triad’s and especially Wyatt Conley’s dirty work. Of course a lot is about Paul and Marguerite’s love for him but true to her character, she is not a whiny person, but strong willed and determined and that’s what makes the plot a whole more action packed than the first one in the series. I would actually go so far and call this an action novel, because there isn’t really any chapter that is just quiet or slowing done. The pace is really fast but it’s written so cleverly and exciting, it was impossible to stop reading. Plus we get to see a lot more of how the world(s) are functioning and what motives Wyatt Conley and Triad really have. Basically we finally get to know where it all started. What we get apart from the world building is a lot of interaction of the people. Where some of the characters lacked some information, we now get a lot of them.
I loved that Gray decided to re-visit some of the known universes, like the Russiaverse which was my absolutely favourite dimension in the last novel. But also in this world Marguerite doesn’t get her peace. There is a plot twist in for the reader which made me actually tear up quite a bit. This is not the only plot twist in the book. There are many, and I was not prepared for any of them. Especially the one at the end that leaves a huge cliff hanger. I need to read the last one as soon as possible because I need to know how everything will work out in the end.
