Official Synopsis:

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.
But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.
The last queen standing gets the crown.

My Review:

First of all, the cover is so cool! And there are so many different ones and I want all of them. It also fits the story really well, each crown representing one of the sisters.
The writing style is great and easy to read. I was very excited to read this, because the story sounded so good, the whole concept of these three girls being sisters, and having to kill each other and magic really got me. But I expected so much more from this book. I thought there would be blood and gore and a lot of killing, witty characters trying to survive. Instead I got a slow beginning, characters without real development and an unnecessary love triangle. I mean, I can understand that the beginning is quite slow because you have to get to know the three main characters Mirabella, Arsinoe and Katherine. But you don’t really get to know them and that was my main issue with the book. You could say that the story is told from three point of views but it also isn’t? It’s more like the view of a group of people which is confusing on the one hand and on the other it introduces way too many characters at once. The only person I really seem to know is Arsinoe and I LOVE her. She is a badass girl. Her sisters maybe too? But I wouldn’t know because I have almost no idea how they think. And then there’s the love triangle between one sister, the boyfriend of  the other sister’s best friend and the girlfriend. And it’s just of no use for the plot or anything else and really not needed. The love triangle is not only unnecessary, but also kind of weird. I can’t really say why it even happens, it makes no sense to me.
Actually, I want a series about Arsinoe and her best friend Jules. I don’t care about the other characters and I only read on because I loved her chapters.
