Synopsis:

When BFFs Charlie, Taylor and Jamie go to SupaCon, they know it’s going to be a blast. What they don’t expect is for it to change their lives forever.
Charlie likes to stand out. SupaCon is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star, Jason Ryan. When Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.
While Charlie dodges questions about her personal life, Taylor starts asking questions about her own.
Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with Jamie—no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about the Queen Firestone SupaFan Contest, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.

Opinion:

For starters, I really liked the cover. The pink hair (that fits the story by the way) and the white letters are so simple yet very bright and happy and made me pick it up immediately. What really inttrigued me, though, was that it is set at a convention and the two main characters are absolute geeks. The story is told from Charlie’s and Taylor’s POV, and the two are just amazing in their own way.
Charlie is a bisexual, Chinese-Australian youtuber and actress who dyed her hair pink. She is outgoing and liked by everyone. She is also strong, and so human. She made mistakes in her life, but she knows and does everything to avoid doing them again. Especially when one of her biggest mistake is getting in a relationship with a huge asshole (excuse my language). So when she meets Alyssa, who is very nice and sweet, she wants to keep everything secret, which is totally understandable.
Whereas Taylor is the complete opposite in almost everything. She has only a few friends, is not famous and where Charlie is loud and outgoing, Taylor is small, chubby and has social anxiety. She doesn’t like make-up. And she is so, so precious. She’s obsessed with a book series that gives her comfort and that makes her happy. And she explains anxiety and panic attacks really well, so even people who don’t have to deal with it every day understand what a person with anxiety feels like. Every day. And it’s touching and just so well written. If anyone ever tells you social anxiety can’t be that bad, give them this book and hopefully they well understand.
Taylor also has a huge crush on her and Charlie’s best friend Jamie who joins them at the convention. And the relationship between them is one of such a deep friendship and of understanding each other and just really sweet, both of them being in love with each other but also not telling each other. I love it! They are both so cute and really perfect matches for each other, and I just wanted them to get together already.
There was such a wide range of different, wonderful (and less wonderful) characters who made for an amazing setting before the background of a convention. Full of charm and wit and nerdy references, Jen Wilde tells an awesome story of friendship, love and fandoms. Queens of Geek is definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year!
