Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

It’s not Friday in Germany anymore, but in other places in the world it is, so here comes this Friday’s favourite: Harry Potter. It had to come at some point. I mean, Harry Potter means too much to me to not be included here.

Why do I love it so much, you probably wonder. Well, of course there is the reason that I grew up with it. I have to be honest and say that I first saw the films before I read the books. At least 1-3 that is, and 1&2 on VHS. Good ol‘ times… I still remember watching Prisoner of Azkaban for the first time when I was eight with my best friend and his mother and I was so afraid of the Dementors that I hid under the living room table and closed my eyes at every dementor scene. Damn, that was a scary movie. But alas, something in me clicked that day and I knew my cousin loved it, so I watched the other films with her and then she lent me her books. A yes, the beginning of something wonderful. So anyways, from that day on Harry Potter has never left me. My cousin had books 1-5 and we couldn’t wait for the next ones to be released. I’ve lent them several times from my cousin before I started getting them myself. By now I have read every book several times and I started collecting them in different editions. Whenever I spot a copy I don’t already own yet and I can afford it, it’s time for a new one. At this point I am owning 42 Harry Potter books, collection growing.

Why else do I love Harry Potter? For one, there is this awesome world! Who hasn’t thought about what lives besides us..? And wizards is just such a good answer! And then there is this world (which is kind of not so modern but whatever) and it just exists there and they learn magic at this magic school called Hogwarts and they have great adventures and learn awesome things. Plus there are all of these fantastic beasts (*winks*) like unicorns and dragons and super big spiders. Have I mentioned quidditch, the wizarding sport yet? No? Because I definitely love this, too. And just, I love the Harry Potter world so, so much.

Aside from the world, I love the characters inside it. This is one of these series where I actually genuinely like the main character more than anyone else. Really, I love Harry with all my heart. He is smart and sarcastic and does stupid things sometimes. And to be honest, I kind of identify with him. Harry is a lot like me, which is probably why I like him so much. And then there is Ginny Weasley! I have included her in my Top 5 female characters list. I’m not talking movie Ginny here, but book Ginny. She is one of the greatest female characters I know! And then there’s Hermione, smart and witty and she knows it. Aren’t we all a bit like Hermione, nose always stuck in a book? And Professor Minerva McGonagall, don’t even get me started on this strong, wonderful person. I have so much love in my heart for the head of Gryffindor house!
Not to forget Fred and George Weasley, mischievous twins and little shits. Well, let’s throw the whole Weasley family into the list of awesome characters. And Luna Lovegood. And Tonks and Lupin and Sirius and I honestly need to stop because I love so many characters and I could probably write an endless list with every HP character on it (let’s leave out Umbridge and Snape please, me no likey).

I can’t really put my love for Harry Potter in actual words that make sense. It has become such a big part of my life.

And because this fits so well, here comes some Pottermore fun:

  • Hogwarts House: Slytherin
  • Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
  • Patronus: Chow Dog
  • Wand: Sycamore wood with phoenix feather core, 13″, brittle flexibility (I love my wand because sycamores are from Egypt and there’s some talk about phoenixes there too but nobody knows what bird is really meant)

And some none-Pottermore fun:

  • Favourite spell: Morsmordre (yeah I know but I like it)
  • Favourite Hogwarts subject: Astronomy!
  • Favourite teacher: professor McGonagall for sure
  • Favourite magical creature: DRAGONS
  • Favourite place: I’d say the Weasley home, the Burrow

Pssssst, there’s a new Harry Potter edition coming this year. And you know what? It’s Hogwarts House – themed. They will be released on the 1st of June and I need them all! Plus illustrated edition of Prisoner of Azkaban. My heart is laughing but my bank account is crying. Anyways, that’s it from me today!

Do you love Harry Potter as much as I do? What’s your Hogwarts House? And Ilvermorny House? Do you like your Patronus? Wow, so many questions! Please let me know in the comments, I love talking Harry Potter!
