Romance Series I Liked Recently | Valentine’s Day

14/02/2025

Hoohoo, Friends of the Blade.

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone celebrating. I don’t really care much about this day to be honest, but I’ve wanted to make a post about romance series I liked in a while and thought I’d take the chance and do it for today! This post features series from my favourite romance genres: contemporary romance, urban fantasy and historical romances. I love all of these series even though they are all very different from each other. Also, to say that before going in: I love Chloe Liese. And it shows. Anyways, let’s have a look at the romance series I enjoyed reading during the past months:

*note: you can click on the covers to get to the goodreads page for each book*

The Regency Vows by Martha Waters
1. To Have and to Hoax
2. To Love and to Loathe
3. To Marry and to Meddle
4. To Swoon and to Spar
5. To Woo and to Wed

to have and to hoaxto love and to loatheto marry and to meddleto swoon and to sparto woo and to wed

Synopsis for book 1, To Have and to Hoax
Five years ago, Lady Violet Grey and Lord James Audley met, fell in love, and got married. Four years ago, they had a fight to end all fights, and have barely spoken since.
Their once-passionate love match has been reduced to one of cold, detached politeness. But when Violet receives a letter that James has been thrown from his horse and rendered unconscious at their country estate, she races to be by his side—only to discover him alive and well at a tavern, and completely unaware of her concern. She’s outraged. He’s confused. And the distance between them has never been more apparent.
Wanting to teach her estranged husband a lesson, Violet decides to feign an illness of her own. James quickly sees through it, but he decides to play along in an ever-escalating game of manipulation, featuring actors masquerading as doctors, threats of Swiss sanitariums, faux mistresses—and a lot of flirtation between a husband and wife who might not hate each other as much as they thought. Will the two be able to overcome four years of hurt or will they continue to deny the spark between them?

This is a fun Regency romance series which follows another couple for each book. They’re friends and family, some feature second chance love, there’s also fake dating and enemies to lovers. It’s not exactly realistic but it’s fun and relaxing and I truly like the characters. In my opinion, they get better and better from book to book!

Rebel Blue Ranch by Lyla Sage

Synopsis for books 1, Done and Dusted
She’s off-limits, but he’s never been good at following the rules.
For the first time in her life, Clementine “Emmy” Ryder has no idea what she’s doing. She’s accomplished everything on her to-do list. She left her small hometown of Meadowlark, Wyoming; went to college; and made a career for herself by doing her favorite thing: riding horses. But after an accident makes it impossible for her to get back into the saddle, she has no choice but to return to the hometown she always wanted to escape.
Luke Brooks is Meadowlark’s most notorious bad boy, bar owner, and bachelor. He’s also the unofficial fifth member of the Ryder family. As Emmy’s older brother’s best friend, Luke spent most of his childhood antagonizing her. It’s been years since he’s seen her, but when she walks into his bar and back into his life, he can’t take his eyes off her. Despite his better judgment, he wants to do a whole lot more than just look at her.
Emmy’s got too much on her mind to think about romance. And Luke knows he should stay away from his best friend’s younger sister. But what if Luke is just what Emmy needs to get her spark back? Or will they both go up in flames?

I’ve absolutely loved the first three books in this series and I am sure I will love the fourth as well. The Rebel Blue series features complex characters and interesting relationships wether they are of the romantic, friend or family kind. It features mental illnesses and talks about mental and physical health. It also has a warm and wholesome atmosphere while still going into depth when it comes to characters’ problems and characteristics and really works through each character. I can’t wait for the last book!

Wilmot Sisters by Chloe Liese
1. Two Wrongs Make a Right
2. Better Hate Than Never
3. Once Smitten, Twice Shy

two wrongs make a rightbetter hate than neveronce smitten, twice shy

Synopsis for book 1, Two Wrongs Make a Right
Jamie Westenberg and Bea Wilmot have nothing in common except a meet-disaster and the mutual understanding that they couldn’t be more wrong for each other. But when the people closest to them play Cupid and trick them into going on a date, Jamie and Bea realize they have something else in common after all—an undeniable need for revenge.
Soon their plan is in Fake date obnoxiously and convince the meddlers they’re madly in love. Then, break up spectacularly and dash everyone’s hopes, putting an end to the matchmaking madness once and for all.
To convince everyone that they’ve fallen for each other, Jamie and Bea will have to nail the performance of their lives. But as their final act nears and playing lovers becomes easier than not, they begin to What if Cupid’s arrow wasn’t so off the mark? And what if two wrongs do make a right?

Chloe Liese can only do right, no wrong in my eyes. I love the three Wilmot sisters and how different they each are yet how well they work together and their sisterly affection for each other. I also really enjoyed the whole family dynamics and the different friendships they each have as well as the romantic aspects and love interests. I also liked how struggles were written and how each sister finds her own way to get through them and live with them.

Bergman Brothers by Chloe Liese

4. With You Forever
5. Everything For You
6. If Only You

Synopsis for book 1, Only When It’s Us
Ryder

Ever since she sat next to me in class and gave me death eyes, Willa Sutter’s been on my shit list. Why she hates me, I don’t know. What I do know is that Willa is the kind of chaos I don’t need in my tidy life. She’s the next generation of women’s soccer. Wild hair, wilder eyes. Bee-stung lips that should be illegal. And a temper that makes the devil seem friendly.
She’s a thorn in my side, a menacing, cantankerous, pain-in-the-ass who’s turned our Business Mathematics course into a goddamn gladiator arena. I’ll leave this war zone unscathed, coming out on top…And if I have my way with that crazy-haired, ball-busting hellion, that will be in more than one sense of the word.
Willa
Rather than give me the lecture notes I missed like every other instructor I’ve had, my asshole professor tells me to get them from the silent, surly flannel-wearing mountain man sitting next to me in class. Well, I tried. And what did I get from Ryder Bergman? Ignored. What a complete lumbersexual neanderthal. Mangy beard and mangier hair. Frayed ball cap that hides his eyes. And a stubborn refusal to acknowledge my existence.
I’ve battled men before, but with Ryder, it’s war. I’ll get those notes and crack that Sasquatch nut if it’s the last thing I do, then I’ll have him at my mercy. Victory will have never tasted so sweet.

Have I rushed through Chloe Liese’s books in June of 2024? I might have. And it all started when I discovered that ages ago, I downloaded Only When It’s Us on my kindle and found it and read it on a whim. And I loved it. I loved that it showed disability, as well as portrayed trauma and sickness and grief in a very realistic, heartbreaking and hopeful way. I loved the protagonists and I also loved the whole Bergman family and immediately needed more. I read the entire Bergman Brothers series back to back and I loved every single book, every single couple that was very unique and wholeosme in their own way. I’m not joking when I say I am absolutely feral about this series.

My Vampires by Jenna Levine
1. My Roommate is a Vampire
2. My Vampire Plus-One

my roommate is a vampiremy vampire plus-one

Synopsis for books 1, My Roommate is a Vampire
Cassie Greenberg loves being an artist, but it’s a tough way to make a living. On the brink of eviction, she’s desperate when she finds a too-good-to-be-true apartment in a beautiful Chicago neighborhood. Cassie knows there has to be a catch—only someone with a secret to hide would rent out a room for that price.
Of course, her new roommate Frederick J. Fitzwilliam is far from normal. He sleeps all day, is out at night on business, and talks like he walked out of a regency romance novel. He also leaves Cassie heart-melting notes around the apartment, cares about her art, and asks about her day. And he doesn’t look half bad shirtless, on the rare occasions they’re both home and awake. But when Cassie finds bags of blood in the fridge that definitely weren’t there earlier, Frederick has to come clean…
Cassie’s sexy new roommate is a vampire. And he has a proposition for her.

I’m a sucker (lol) for vampires. And I especially love them in rom-coms and My Vampires is a hilariously weird series that made me giggle and feel warm around my heart. I did like book 2 more, but both of them are such great books to escape reality for a while and get into a lighter mood. Campy vampires, garbage art, some sexy time, … I love these books.

Glimmer Falls by Sarah Hawley
1. A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon
2. A Demon’s Guide to Wooing a Witch
3. A Werewolf’s Guide to Seducing a Vampire

a witch's guide to fake dating a demona demon's guide to wooing a witcha werewolf's guide to seducing a vampire

Synopsis of book 1, A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon
Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon—one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain.
Ozroth the Ruthless is a legend among demons. Powerful and merciless, he drives hard bargains to collect mortal souls. But his reputation has suffered ever since a bargain went awry—if he can strike a bargain with Mariel, he will earn back his deadly reputation. Ozroth can’t leave Mariel’s side until they complete a bargain, which she refuses to do (turns out some humans are attached to their souls).
But the witch is funny. And curvy. And disgustingly yet endearingly cheerful. Becoming awkward roommates quickly escalates when Mariel, terrified to confess the inadvertent summoning to her mother, blurts out that she’s dating Ozroth. As Ozroth and Mariel struggle with their opposing goals and maintaining a fake relationship, real attraction blooms between them. But Ozroth has a limited amount of time to strike the deal, and if Mariel gives up her soul, she’ll lose all her emotions—including love—which will only spell disaster for them both.

Everytime I open a book set in Glimmer Falls, I think of the Sims. There are all types of magical creatures walking around doing things, some of them random enough that I feel like one of my Sims went off to woo someone again or something. But these books are charming and hilarious, there are fun jokes, wonderful friendships and couples that work so well together, both in their relationships and when they have to fight tyrannic mothers or demons or witches. I wish for more stories in this universe, thank you very much.
