Hoohoo, guys.
I’m participating in the Magical Readathon to get my O.W.L.s together and become a Hogwarts Professor! If you’re now wondering what I’m talking about, let me explain very quickly. G from Book Roast has put a lot of work into creating a readathon with lots of fun and magic and I am just so in awe of what she has done. I’ve never participated in one of her readathons before but I’m so excited to do so now! So, in the month of April we’re getting graded in several Hogwarts subjects. Each participant can pick a wizarding career and get the O.W.L.s necessary for it. The subjects are represented by different prompts which you have to read a book for. If you read the book – you’ve passed the exam.
Here’s G’s video in which she explains everything in a much better way than I will ever be able to. Just in case you want to join as well or just want to know what I’m rambling about.
Now, which career did I pick? I chose to go for Hogwarts professor which I would probably going towards if I were in the wizarding world. My favourite subject is Herbology, so of course I’m going with Herbology professor as well! I just love plants so much.
For this, I’ll need 7 O.W.L.s: Defence against the darks arts, Herbology and five others I can choose freely. And here are the subjects I choose and which books I want to read:
- Defence against the Dark Arts (Reducto: Title that starts with “R”): Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds
- Herbology (Plant on the cover): Tyler Johnson was here by Jay Coles
- Care of Magical Creatures (Land animal on the cover): The female of the species by Mindy McGinnis
- Astronomy (“Star” in the title): Of fire and stars by Audrey Coulthurst
- Ancient Runes (Retelling): Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne
- Muggle Studies (Contemporary): Der letzte erste Kuss by Bianca Iosivoni
- Potions (Next ingredient: Sequel): Smoke in the sun by Renée Ahdieh
I really hope I’ll pass all of them, since uni is going to start again and it’ll probably be stressful but I have a goal to reach and I shall manage this!
Are you participating in this readathon as well? Have you ever joined one of G’s before or any other readathon?
Happy reading & until next time,
I nearly went with Hogwarts Professor as well (on the basis that, if I’d attended Hogwarts for seven years, I’d probably never want to leave!) but decided to go for Magical Law instead, because I’m a solicitor in real life.
I’ve heard great things about Smoke in the Sun, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of it 🙂
The only other thing I’d like to be is Herbologist, so I thought why not combine herbology and Hogwarts 😀 Ohhh that makes sense then!! I think law is really interesting, even though I usually don’t understand it very much. By which I mean I have to read a paragraph about 4 times until I understand the wording. If that makes sense 😀
I really enjoyed book 1 already, so let’s see what Smoke in the Sun has in store for me 😀 I’ll make sure to tell you 🙂
